BayernSat's communication is divided into the following areas:

Communication

Communication in the BayernSat project is a part of the central Special Research Unit 453 Effect-oriented Telepresence and Teleaction of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft, German Research Foundation). Because of the requirements and the resulting challenges, a specific communication architecture is necessary.

The following figure shows an overview of the general communication architecture. BayernSat, which is to be located in the LEO, will dispose of three possible communication connections. The InterSatelliteLink (ISL) to the geostationary relay satellite ARTEMIS and the DownLink to the ground station Redu is a broad band connection with a data rate of approx. 500 kbps. Both S-band direct connections are intended exclusively for commanding and telemetric reception of the satellite. In this case the ground station WHM has a backup function to be able to guarantee the contact to BayernSat in case of a possible defect of the LRT ground station.
All the data connections of the individual ground stations are centrally administered in the control station of the LRT.
